Barley belongs to a member of the
grass family Poaceae. It is one of the major food crop of human beings.
It is also used to produce animal feed crop. In terms of production and
area under cultivation, barley ranked fourth in the world. Barley can
survive and thrive in saline soil and in cold conditions. The malt juice
extracted from barley is rich source of protein which is consumed by
