Cream Separator

Cream Separator
Cream separator is a machine for separating and removing cream from whole milk. As skim milk is heavier than cream, it is easily separated by using separator.

In the past, cream was made by the gravity method. In gravity method, the milk is pored into a large vertical pan and is allowed to settle for about few hours allowing the cream to rise to the top of a pan which is later skimmed. The cream so produced are used in many confectionery items like cakes, pastries, biscuits, rolls, ice creams etc.

Features :
The separator consists of a centrifuge which is in the form of revolving bowl having set of disks. There is a spindle on which bowl is mounted. The spindle is situated underneath the milk supply tank. The milk is distributed to the disk by distributor which has series of openings. A spindle rotates the bowl due to which milk gets separated into vertical layers through series of identical conical disks. On the outer circumference of the rotating bowl, the heavier skim milk gets collected. The cream concentrates in the interior and moves up to the cream outlet near the center of the bowl. The cream and skim milk is forced out of the machine by the pressure of the whole-milk supply above the bowl and are collected into separate vessels.
