Snacks are those food items that
are consumed mainly for the enjoyment of the taste and to tide the
temporary hunger. The snack items are more durable and less perishable
as they consists of preservatives. The snacks comes in different mixes
and tastes. The popular taste of snacks are sweet, sweet and salty or
simply salty. To increase the taste, these snacks are also added with
various nuts, dry fruits and other ingredients. For preparing snacks
different types of machineries of different sizes are used. Potatoes and
gram flour(besan) are used as a base material for preparing snacks The
machines popularly used for preparing salted snacks are :
- Extruder Machine
Extruder machine is useful for extruding gram flour paste (besan)
into small droplets. It is useful for extruding sev, papdi, ganthia
etc. The machine is fitted over frying pan. The extruded product
lands into the frying pan and then fried. The extruder machine is
also used for crushing boiled potato for preparing fried potato
chips(aloo bhujia). The shapes of the products can be altered by
using sieves of different sizes and shapes.
- Dough Making Machine
Dough making machine prepares the dough of besan or other flour. The
dough is then further processed to prepare snacks.
- Oil Dryer
The oil dryer is used for removing excess oil or water from namkeens
and wafers. The product which is to be dried is placed in the
rotating basket which dries the product after a spin.
- Automatic Sev Extruder
Automatic extruder extrudes the sev of fine variety. The dough of
besan is placed in the pressing chamber from where it is extruded in
the frying pan.
- Banana Chips
Banana chips are sliced, dried or semi dried either in the open sun
or drier machine and are then fried to obtain the chips.
- Potato Snacks
For preparing potato snacks the potato is first peeled and then
sliced using peeler and slicer respectively. They are then dried and
then cooked in a machine which has in built heating mechanism. The
excess oils from the chips are removed by using centrifugal dryer.
