Oil is an indispensable item for
the preparation of foods. No edible items can be prepared without using
oils. Oils are obtained from different oilseeds. After harvesting,
oilseeds are separated and they are milled for obtaining oil. Oils are
obtained from many sources like mustard, canola, rapeseed, sunflower,
soybean, peanuts, coconuts, castor seeds, linseed, copra, cotton seed,
palm fruit etc.
There are many machines from which oils are extracted, purified and
then made suitable for consumption. Oil is first extracted by using
expeller and then purified(clarified) by using filter machines.
Oil Expeller/ Oil Presser
By using expeller, press or wooden mortar, oil is extracted. The
machine has following features :
- Oil expellers or pressers are available in different sizes and
capacities.
- Inside a horizontal cylinder expellers have a rotating screw.
The cylinder is capped at one end.
- Seeds and nuts are forced out of cylinder by screw.
- Through friction or by electric heater the material is heated.
- There is a small hole in the cylinder from which the oil
escapes. The press cake emerges from the end of the cylinder once
the cap is removed.
- After the extraction oil is filtered through filter press to
make it edible.
