Pearling is a process by which
the surface of the processed grain is cleaned and given uniformity.
After the harvesting rice contains many impurities like brans, husks
etc. Rice pearler clear these impurities and converts brown rice to
white pearly rice.
Features
The important features of rice pearler are:
- It consists of cylinder and is provided with separator to remove
the light particles and obtain a clean product.
- It is powered by electric motors and and is provided with v-belt
and pulleys.
- Capacities, sizes and configurations depend on the volume of work
to be accomplished.
- It abrades grains through rotating action.
- It consists of a carefully balance conical stone which is
covered with a special emery coating.
Mechanical Operations
After separation from the husk, rice is fed into the pearler. The
conical stone of rice pearler is coated with emery. The stone rotates
inside the casing made of segments which are interchangeable and is
lined with wire screen . These segments called cribs are fitted with
adjustable rubber brakes. The number of both cribs and rubber brakes
depends on the diameter of the cone. The cones can be raised and lowered
to increase or reduce the pearling action. If emery coating is worn out
it can be replaced.
